[WP] A person's superpowers emerge during- and relate to- a highly stressful moment in their life. Your brother nearly drowned, and as a result could shape water to his will. A classmate fell from a high balcony, and ended up learning to fly. You? You just got your powers last night.

[WP] The galaxy at large tends to have a "get better on your own or die" approach to healthcare. To most aliens, human healthcare is scary and unnatural. Even the most minor forms of surgery are seen as the stuff of Frankenstein-esque sci-fi horror.

[WP] You've had enough: Your peers on the high court never saw you as an equal, your job continues to demand more and reward less, and even the sovereign, once a friend, now views you more as an asset than an ally. You, the kingdom's last mage, will no longer stand this treatment. It's time to go.

[WP] Your friends always said you couldn't whistle to save your life. With a gun to your head, you manage to whistle a perfect rendition of your assailant's favorite song, compelling them to spare you. It turns out you can do quite literally anything, so long as doing so gets you out of mortal peril

[WP] Magic users are valued for the passive benefits they bring simply by existing in an area as their magic weaves into the world. Peaceful, fairly ruled kingdoms attract mages in droves, and experience perpetual golden ages. Corrupt kingdoms drive away mages, and lose all the boons that come with.
