Pop culture's Pacific War is mostly on Marines. While they certainly had some of the toughest assignments, the Army sent several times as many troops to the Pacific. Why is the Pacific shown as only being fought by the Marines and the Navy? Do the Army battles look too much like Vietnam?

During WWII the British raised several deep behind the lines Commando raider type units, such as the SAS / SBS, LRDG, Commandos etc... while in the Pacific and Asia the US had some deep behind the lines units, why did the USA not follow suit of the British in Europe and Africa?
