A Question about Balancing Chemical Equations, If i have C₂+2O --> C₂+O₂ , Does the Coefficient (2) before O effect the C₂ (Before the plus sign)? & If it doesn't, Is it only because the Plus sign splits them, Or does the plus sign not matter at all when balancing? Help...

Basic Question, But do Sex Cells before undergoing Meiosis consist of 23 pairs of chromosomes, Or 23 Chromosomes only? If 23 pairs of chromosomes, Why doesnt it become 63 pairs of chromosomes after replicating in Meiosis?
