In Saving Private Ryan, a few American soldiers open the hatch of a Tiger tank to drop a grenade inside , is there any documentation of this actually occurring in ww2?

Later in world war 2, the Nazis made every attempt to demolish every bridge that led to Germany (on the western front). They made every effort but failed to demolish the Ludendorff bridge. Was that the last bridge that led to Germany, or the last feasible way to go into Germany?
