I found out recently that the sun is not still, it is moving away from other stars. Is it fair to say nothing is standing still, or have scientists decided on a 'default' place that is 'standing still' so at least we can measure galactic speed against that?

I read that GPS satellites are NOT in geosynchronous orbit. So how is it possible some areas of earth could be 'bad for GPS as it's the middle of no-where' or is that an urban myth?
