In spectroscopy, how do we differentiate the redshift of an astronomical object from its actual spectra? In other words, how do we know the redshift we're seeing is an actual redshift, instead of just a weird spectra?

If you die in a natural environment (i.e., aren't buried in a casket and sealed inside a burial vault, etc.), what's a reasonable time scale during which you could expect yourself to decay and your atoms to be redistributed and incorporated into something else?
