Throughout my elementary, junior high, and high school years, Asia was always suspiciously absent when studying "World History." Why is that? And as a recovering ignoramus, where could I find a good primer on the eastern empires?

My father-in-law believes in alot of pseudo-science, magical cures, and alternative medicine. Most of the time it is harmless, but sometimes it can be dangerous, and he tries to get my wife to take what he is taking, which she usually does at first. I need some help with arguments.
