[WP] A mad scientist is constantly working on some doomsday experiment but always manages to create the opposite of what he intended. After creating a cure-all balm, instead of a life-ending plague, the world is content to just let him do his thing.

[WP] When a person dies, their consciousness (ghost/whatever) is able to move freely in any direction from the point of their body until they hit a solid object. As such, space burials are highly sought after while traditional burials are literally a fate worse than death.
