Did some Roman youth feel that they were “Born in the wrong generation?” In other words, did Romans idealize past cultural norms/fade/fashions/etc. from 40 or 60 years in the past like we do with the “80s”or “60s” (or others) in the United States?

In past centuries, was it a social norm to refer to decades of the century past by its last two numbers (1970s = “the 70s”) like we tend to do with the 20th century?

[WP] You found a wallet on the sidewalk a fair amount of cash. Of course, being the Good Samaritan you are, you find him on Facebook and message him. Two days later he messages you back thanking you and asking to make arrangements, but when you look for the wallet, you found you’ve lost it as well

Is there an invention or inventions that serve as the starting point or “spark” for many or most of the inventions that allow us to live the modern lives we do? With the invention(s), would Rome or Greece (or others) at their peak have been able to advance as far as we have during their time?
