Around a third of William the Conqueror's army in the battle of Hastings were Bretons who had fled from the Anglo-Saxon invaders of Britain some 400-500 year earlier. Were those Bretons aware of this fact? Or did they even chose to participate to have a revenge against the Anglo-Saxons?

At its peak, the relatively short-lived Mongol Empire was 5 times bigger than the Roman Empire stretching from Korea to the Kingdom of Hungary. Was it a "real" state with proper Mongol administration, or was it merely just a large area that was (quite brutally) raided and ransacked?
