[WP] When alien robots invade, humanity is able to fend them off surprisingly well - They aren't that smart, just persistent. But now they're disassembling the moon to make more of themselves. Humans need to go on the offensive just to keep Earth's biosphere from collapsing from the lack of tides.

As an elf, everyone around you is thousands of years old, has mastered dozens of crafts and skills to the highest degree possible... And since elves hardly reproduce, a "young" elf is lucky to find another elf within a century of their age. Which is why most elves choose to "grow up" elsewhere.

It's a well-known fact that the altitude one's body can sustain in flight is tied strongly to their age. There are other factors that can influence maximum height - Poor health can ground you pretty badly, extra effort can give you a small boost. But truly touching the heavens is for the elders.
